Mess-Free Color Mixing

Complete the rainbow by mixing some colors together in this Blue's Clues & You! inspired craft.

What You’ll Need:

  • Hair gel
  • Food coloring
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Blue’s Clues & You! cut-outs
  • Glue
  • Gallon size zip close bag
  • Alcohol swab
  • Spoon

 

STEP 1Remove the label from the plastic bag using an alcohol swab.

STEP 2Cut out Blue and Magenta from the printable found below.

STEP 3Add a small dot of glue to the top of a popsicle stick and place the Blues Clues cutouts on top.

STEP 4Add clear hair gel to separate bowls and add a drop or two of food coloring to the hair gel. Mix well. Use only primary colors plus pink if you have some (it makes the prettiest purple when mixed with blue).

STEP 5Open the bag as widely as possible so you have easy access to the bottom.

STEP 6Add in the first color and spread it evenly along the bottom. Layer the colors on top of each other inside the bag. Using the natural stickiness of the gel, the bag will close slightly after each color, leaving a bit of space between them.

STEP 7Seal the bag well making sure there is little to no air inside.

STEP 8Use the Blue’s Clues sticks to mix the colors and trace shapes, letters, numbers or anything your child would enjoy. As the colors blend, you’ll slowly see new colors developing. From red, yellow, blue and pink we made orange, green and purple.
