ICYMI, everyone’s favorite squarepants-wearing fry-cook has a BIG anniversary this year. That’s right – we’re celebrating 25 YEARS OF SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS! What better way to honor SpongeBob’s legacy and the beloved cartoon’s roots in marine biology (did you know that creator Stephen Hillenburg was originally a marine biology teacher?!) than by using this moment to do some good?

NICKELODEON’S PLEDGE TO ACT LIKE A SPONGE
We are so proud to share that in honor of SpongeBob’s 25th Anniversary, Nickelodeon has pledged to remove 5 million pounds of plastic and debris by 2027. Our cleanup efforts have already collected over 1.5 million pounds from oceans and ocean-bound waterways across the globe, but there’s still more to be done to achieve our goal.
ACT LIKE A SPONGE: TAKE A TRIP TO THE AQUARIUM!
We partnered with several aquariums across the U.S. to inspire climate action and encourage families to Act LIke A Sponge together! Don’t miss special activations honoring SpongeBob and Stephen Hillenburg’s passion for protecting marine life at the following participating aquariums from July 15 – Sept 15, 2024:
- Aquarium of the Pacific: Long Beach, CA
- Adventure Aquarium: Philadelphia, PA
- Mystic Aquarium: Mystic, CT
- Kansas City Aquarium: Kansas City, MO
- Ripley’s Aquarium: Gatlinburg, TN
